When adding keywords to a project for the first time it would be useful to be able to group them at this stage rather than doing it manually later on.

Hi there, 
This can be done at the moment, either manually, by choosing the group for your keywords or in bulk, using the Import function. See the following screenshot as reference.

Iulia Lacriceanu: It would be good to assign them like this in the new project box.
The import functionality does help, thanks!
Edit: It looks like this might be how it works! It would help to clarify that in this stage.
